Favorite Children's Treasury Books

There are so many wonderful children's books available. Many classic stories are still some of the best today. They teach values, and language while delighting and entertaining both parents and children. However many of us have space or money for only a few. Here are some of my favorite Children's Treasury Books which would make a fantastic addition to any child's personal library.

20th Century Children's Book Treasury - by Janet Schulman - This book is wonderful collection of children's books. Some of my favorites that are included are The Sneetches and Madeline.

The Children's Book of Virtues - by William  J. Bennett - This book teaches values through stories and poems. It contains classics such as the Little Hero of Holland and George Washington and the Cherry Tree as well as new stories that are sure to delight young readers.

A Treasury of Stories for Children - by Nancy & Edward Blishen - Thirty-three classic fairy tales and stories are included in this excellent illustrated children's treasury. Hans Christians Andersen's Steadfast Tin Soldier, The Giant Who Threw Tantrums, and King Midas are among the many included in this book.

Mad About Madeline - The Complete Tales - by Ludwig Bemelmans - We love Madeline and were delighted to find this book which includes all the Madeline stories. With similar art work, rhyming text and great stories all three of my children have made this book a favorite.

James Herriot's Treasury for Children - by James Herriot - This book is sure to be a hit with the animal loving child. Beautiful illustrations and wonderful stories also make this book a favorite of mine.

The Complete Tales of Winnie the Pooh - by A.A. Milne - This list just wouldn't be complete without Winnie the Pooh. These humorous stories still make my husband and I laugh. We love it when rabbit hangs his dish towels on Pooh's legs when he gets stuck half-in and half-out of Rabbit's house.

  1. I confess to generally overlooking anthologies because they usually duplicate titles we own. However, I do so love that Milne collection!

  2. Yes! I love the Winnie-the-Pooh collection. We don't own it yet, but I found several of the chapters in individual books at the Goodwill. I read the entire treasury to my pregnant belly before Bobo made his appearance.

  3. Thanks for sharing this with Favorite Resources...these are some great selections! We own the 20th Century Children's Book Treasury, and a Winnie the Pooh Treasury, although I don't think it's exactly the same one.
